Q: Why is membership free?
Why is membership free?
A:
MYeFlora is a member based community that does not collect membership dues. The reason is that we want everyone to have an opportunity to join, and adding membership dues limits this option for some. MYeFlora gains revenue to keep functioning through affiliate support, such as Google ads, and through advertisement. This revenue allows us to keep growing and to cover the necessary costs of having an online presence and business, particularly the server bandwidth that can become costly.

Q: How accurate is your plant information?
How accurate is your plant information?
A:
There is a lot of varying information and data on each plant, so it is difficult for anyone to claim 100% accuracy. This even extends to the various common names plants are known for as you cross into different regions. However, we verify each plant in our database by doing our own accuracy check to the extent possible.
Q: Why would you allow members to contribute their own information?
Why would you allow members to contribute their own information? Doesn't this create unreliable information in the database?
A:
Not at all! It is our members that are the true force and experts behind our fantastic plant database. We understand, however, that sometimes even gardeners can make mistakes, which is why we verify all plants entered into the plant database.
Q: Is your database comprehensive?
Is your database comprehensive?
A:
There are so many thousands of plants out there, it is nearly impossible to have a fully comprehensive database. Our plant database, however, grows daily, and it is fun to contribute and add plants yourself.
Q: There are a lot of plants that don't have pictures. Why is this?
There are a lot of plants that don't have pictures. Why is this?
A:
We need your help to get pictures added! Sometimes, it is easy to access information, but difficult to gather images for each plant in our database. Be sure to add all of your plant photos -- it is fun to add them in, and showcase your plants.
Q: Can you explain the different areas of the plant database?
Can you explain the different areas of the plant database? What is the difference between a regular search and advanced search?
A:
There are multiple ways to utilize our plant database. Here are the different functions:
-- REGULAR SEARCH: the regular search is found at the top left of all plant database pages. Here, you can search by a plant's common name and botanical name. Simply type in the name and press the "go" button to return your results.
-- ADVANCED SEARCH: the advanced search is a very popular and useful feature. Here, you can use search filters to find plants that meet your specific criteria. For example, if you are looking for a plant that grows in Zone 1, requires little water, and blooms yellow in the summer, you can easily find your plant by using the advanced search page!!
-- AT A GLANCE: there is an 'At a Glance' page for every letter of the alphabet. These pages are meant for someone who is interested in looking at a simple list of plants that are organized in alphabetical order by common name. Each plant also links to more detailed information by taking you to the main plant database search results page.
-- ADD A PLANT: this page allows you to add in a plant that is not currently in our database, and that you have information for. Note that there are several required fields for entering in a plant.
-- UPDATE THIS PLANT: within the search results pages you will find a button called "update this plant" (located at the top of the plant information window). Go to this page when you wish to add further information to a plant that currently exists within our plant database. You can also add your plant photos through this option. To just add notes, click on the "add notes" button also found in the search results page.
Q: What is a blog?
I'm not too clear on what a blog is exactly? Why would I want to have one?
A:
Blog comes from the phrase "web logs". Simply, it is similar to an online journal or diary, except that they are typically public. Like journal entries, they are written entries of the author's personal thoughts, experiences, and view points. Gardners enjoy blogs as a way to also document a project they are doing, such as the progression of their garden. Because you can upload images, they make a great tool for keeping a visual log of you, your plants, or anything else you would like to post. Blogs are much more fun than the typical journal, because others can post a comment to your posts, which makes blogs fun and interactive (although you are the main author). You maintain control of your blog, so it is up to you to decide whether anyone can view or comment on your blogs. You can make them visible and interactive with anyone, members of MYeFlora only, or just those you designate as your friends. To view sample blogs, visit http://www.myeflora.com/WebSite/Forum/weblog.php?w=4, or http://www.myeflora.com/WebSite/Forum/weblog.php?w=3.

Q: Managing Your Blog
I've created a blog, now what do I do with it?
A:
Get ready to have fun! Within blogs, you can make written entries (similar to "journal" entries, except that they are typically public).
>> Making an entry is easy - in the main page of your personal blog, click the "Post new entry" link located at the top of the screen. A screen will appear that looks similar to a form -- here is where you make your blog entry. You can also upload images and include emoticons (the little yellow faces) in this page also. >>When uploading an image in the "Add Images to Entry" box, locate your image by finding it through the "browse" button, then click "Submit". The page will reload, and in the image box will appear a thumbnail of your image, along with a long link called "BBCode". You must copy this long link and paste it inside of your blog entry text box within this page -- paste the link exactly where you would like the picture to appear. If you have difficulty in doing this, email the web administrator for more detailed instructions at admin@MYeFlora.com.
>> Use the small calendar on your blog's home page to find entries made on a specific day. Days that are underline signify an entry - if the day is not underlined, that means you did not make an entry on that day.
Q: What exactly is the Blog CP?
What exactly is the Blog CP?
A:
"CP" stands for "Control Panel", where you update your blog settings and preferences. This loosely allows you to customize your blog by choosing which features you'd like visible, such as the calendar block, the "shout" box, profile and contact information, etc. Once you have updated your settings, click on the "Update my blog" button at the bottom of the page to immediately make your changes live.
Q: Can I limit access to the blog?
I like the idea of blogs, but I don't want my personal thoughts to be public. Can I limit access to the blog?
A:
You bet! In your Control Panel ("CP" icon found in the forum or on your main blog page), find the "Blog Accessibility" option. The drop down box here allows you to limit visibility of your blog to guests, registered members, those you designate as "friends", or just you. You can also control who can reply to your blogs in the option below this one titled "Reply Priviledges". In addition, you can block/ban specific users from your blog within your blog's home page, where you will find the "Blocked Users" link located in the right hand column.
Q: What is a permalink?
What is a permalink?
